Kathryn Stockett is an American Novelist who grew up in Jackson,Mississippi. She as well as her brother grew up with a African American Domestic worker. She uses her life experience to come up with the book "The Help". While being away from her parents without a phone she started writing through the voice of Aibileen, her maid growing up. While writing she also realized that Aibileen had a older, quieter vibe to her inviting her to make the next character Minny. After getting the beginning of the story figured out and coming up with two characters she decided to turn it into a book. Although I don't think Kathryn was trying to portray herself as any of the characters in the book I beleive that the whole story itself is meant to touch on what her life may have been like when she was younger. The close connection between Mae and Aibileen, with Aibileen even calling Mae her "Special child" may relate to how Kathrym talked about her maid even saying that the maid to her was looked at as family to despite the opinions of others. Kathryn as well as the book also have another thing in common the setting. Kathryn is born in Jacskon, Mississippi just like the setting of the story. It's easy to see all the different ways that Kathryn story and the book relate. Kathryn and skeeter also have some similarities with both being writers in a time of discrimination in Mississippi and moving to New York to become more successful with Kathryn moving to become magazine publisher and marketer and skeeter moving to become writer. Although this book is written as a fictional book I beleive this book is fictional with non fiction roots. Everything in the book didn't happen or everything in the book wasn't accurate but the main points, actions, and ideas are real things that happened in the author,Kathryn stocketts life.(content.time.com)
