This book may not look the most interesting or sound the most interesting on first go but it truly matches the famous saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". Even for a reader that may only likes comedic books or frictional books this book is a fictional book with non fictional roots that has a engaging storyline and a very interesting chain of events. This story helped me to better understand how someone, particularly a black maid, may feel during this time. I beleive that if someone else was to read this book they too would realize how interesting this book is and how many new things they could learn. Many people think that maids only worked for rich people cleaning the house but in fact that is just part of it. Maids during this time besides just cleaning, cooked, babysat, and even,on occasions, went and did the shopping for the family. During this time also not only did rich people have maids but a lot of single income middle class families had maids to so maids were very common during this time period. I also learned that some whites cared about how the African Americans felt through this time this is evident through skeeter who has a conversation with multiple maids with the help of Aibileen to see how they felt and the different stories they had. Even after she became successful she payed all of them and helped Aibileen get her old job as a writer. So not only did she write about their life stories she also helped the, when she was done which shoes that everyone wasn't cold hearted but whites who were nice to blacks was still hard to find. Overall I beleive that this book is a wonderful book with many interesting stories and ideas and should be read by anyone who likes interesting stories and amazing storylines. (Ic.gailgroup.com)
